Dear NYTS Students,

We are pleased to announce that New York Theological Seminary will be distributing limited emergency grants to help degree-seeking students with expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus. This funding has been made possible by the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, which is part of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Awards will range from $500 to $1,000. To be considered for the NYTS CARES Act Grant, the student must have a COVID-related expense/cost and provide supporting evidence. Covered expenses include food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child-care costs. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) has specified the following eligibility criteria:

  • Enrollment in the Spring 2020 term by March 13, 2020.

  • Demonstrate Title IV eligibility by filing a 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application at, if they have not already done so.

Based on conditions established by ED, the following groups of students are ineligible to receive CARES Act aid: (a) dual enrollment students; (b) students enrolled in a 100% online degree program; (c) students who are not U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens (including international students and DACA students); and (d) non-degree seeking students.
